About:
Laneo is an international philanthropic organization working to restore and protect the trails, rivers, lakes and beaches utilized by outdoor sport enthusiasts.
Goal:
The goal was to develop a website that could get the organization started within its budget limitations, yet be easy to add on to quickly as the organization grew and secured more capital.
A sitemap and full plan was developed to outline all the functionality, content and sections the site would have once fully built. The sections that were critical to the launch were then identified, while space and structure was prepared for rapid future add ons.
Rapid member enrollment was needed in order for the organization to gain launch momentum. A simple and easy to use "invitation tool" was created to enable members to invite their friends, family and co workers to join. And additional "spread the word" banners were created and placed into the website—where anyone could easily download them and utilize them on their own site, blog or newsletter.
The first phase of the site also included a short Flash movie with audio, to help visitors understand the goals of the organization, information sections that outlined the organization's mission, goals, strategy, operational model, partners and supporters, and the first phases of member accounts—including functionality for community wide messages, partner advertisements, and email invitations.
The entire site was then translated into 11 languages.
Phase II of the site is currently under development and will include functionality for member voting, member surveying, a redesigned invitation tool, e-commerce store, event organizing, an online community, newsletters, blogs, a partner application for administering promotions, another application for creating event and promotional micro-sites and more. Expected launch of Phase II is Fall of 2007.
Results:
The site enrolled over 1,300 members worldwide in its first 2 months of operation—without any advertising or publicity, strictly by word of mouth.
Over 3,000 unique visitors land on the site each month with 70% new and 30% returning visitors.
Average of 17% visitor conversion ratio (memberships / visits).
Launch of the site helped secure additional investment capital for the client.
Launch of the site helped secure 15 corporate partners critical to success.
